This is another Gigaswitch firmware rev level / Mgmt tool question
that note 3493 has not cleared this up.
I have a customer who is happly evaluating a set of Gigaswitches.
He started with Hubwatch for DOS and also UNIX. He uses
an SNMP manager to manipulate variables not supported in the
packages. Again everything works as expected. Filters everything.
I brought over a copy of MCM. The statistics displays look
look wonderful, the manipulation of M ports and all work
fine. When filters modification is attempted
we get general SNMP errors or the W95 platform hangs. Not just
the process mind you -- a hard reboot is required.
Since everything else works and he has an alternative way
to manipulate filters -- this is not a major problem.
At this customer at least. :)
If this is a simple firmware / mgmt tool mismatch
then -- Is it true that the Gigaswitch firmware distributed on the
Clearvisn CD is fully supported by the version of MCM
distributed on that CD ?
Next question. If the Gigaswitch firmware is upgraded
to the CD version what if any will be the affect on the
DOS and UNIX version of Hubwatch ?
If I can find a way of mis understanding something - I will,
If this is going to be a complicated answer,
then
A short list of management tool and firmware supported
on a per management tool host platform basis would help.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

>>>>Is it true that the Gigaswitch firmware distributed on the >>>> Clearvisn CD is fully supported by the version of MCM >>>> distributed on that CD ? Yes. In fact, this is the recommended version of firmware to use. MCM requires GS/FDDI V3.0X to work properly. The consolidated firmware kit supplies a DCF413.TXT file with the firmware releases supplied with kit. Older versions of MCM (ie HUBwatch) should contain the firmware versions required within the online release notes under 'help'. Steve | |||||
