3821.1 | Still on FDDI? | SNOFS1::KHOOJEANNIE | Poles are the best post-impressionists | Thu Aug 29 1996 21:30 | 9 |
| Hi Steven
You haven't by any chance forgotten to change the interface number from
the default of "1" (FDDI) to one of the Ethernets (2-7), have you?

| Hi there.
When in RMON MANAGER, I have selected the EF,a nd done a view, and I
can see that the interface is 3, and this interface, is connected to
the thinwire, in the LAN INTERCONNECT screen. Is there something else I
am missing?

Steven,
what community are you using ?
Use also the Domain Manager to check what's installed.
From the Release notes of the Ethernet Switch Enterprise RMON Upgrade V1.7:
-rmon must be appended to the r/w community string of the switch in RMON
Manager to access the Enterprise RMON MIB. For example, if the r/w
community string of the switch was "chris", place "chris-rmon" in the
community string fields of the Agent Configuration window in RMON Manager
(PROBEwatch). If you just placed "chris" in this field, you will only
be able to access 4 groups of RMON in the RMON domain (Basic RMON MIB).

3821.4 | Data capture now works but not traffic monitor | KERNEL::FREKES | Excuse me while I scratch my butt | Fri Aug 30 1996 11:38 | 16 |
| Manuel
Thanks for the info. I have ammended the community string and that has
now allowed me to use the data capture option. But when I click on
traffic monitor with the agent selected, and I still get the CANNOT
COMMUNICATE WITH AGENT message. When I click on the agent group, all
the icons becoem greyed out, except for the Traffic monitor, protocol
monitor, and the domain manager. When I click on Traffic monitor, I get
the message ERROR ACCESSING AGENT _______ DOMAIN ALL!
WHILE RETRIEVING DOMAIN STATUS
ERROR DOMAIN OT PRESENT IN AGENT.
I deleted the group, on the right hand side of the RMON manager as
you go in. And then recreated it. But still no difference.

steven,
When I click on the agent group, all the icons becoem greyed out, except for
the Traffic monitor, protocol monitor, and the domain manager
Expected. You can't do data capture on all the 'probes' (ethernets) of the group
(switch). But you can see on the same window the traffic on all the 'probes'
(ethernets) of the group (switch).
Work on a single agent at a time, select the group later.
Try things step by step.
- select an agent (ie interface 3 )
- click on Domain Manager and check what's installed (seems domain ALL
is not installed).
- verify your cfg files in clearvis\probew\usr
- exit RMON manager and restart it

3821.6 | after a lot of cursing, it works, thanks!! | KERNEL::FREKES | Excuse me while I scratch my butt | Fri Aug 30 1996 15:26 | 25 |
| Ok,
I have selected the agent, and clicked on domain manager. When the
windows appears I have 16 domains installed.
When you said it sounds like I have not got all domains installed, do
you mean literally all domains, or do you mean the domain called all.
If it is the latter than I can't find a domain called all.
So I have installed all the domains I only managed to install 23 of
them because of an insufficient resources mesage. I have exited out of
RMON, and gone back in. Still did not work.
I deleted the agent, and shut down RMON. Rebooted the switch.
I though I would start fresh :-)
After adding the agent, I went and clicked on the domain editor. There
was not an all option here. I clicked on add, and when the add domain
screen came up I typed in all in the domain name field. Clicked on OK.
I then tried a data capture. This worked. I tried all the other
functions and they now work as well.
Thanks for all the help. It is much appreciated.
