3778.0. "Cannot set up PVCs using clearVISN MultiChassis Manager" by LEMAN::JRS (John SHADE - 'Attila the Nun') Wed Aug 07 1996 05:54

I am posting this note on behalf of a colleague who is in the fortunate
position of being on holiday:

=================
I installed ClearVISN on the customer's PC running Window NT (v. 3.5.1) and
we tried to establish PVCs with one of its GUIs. However, we did not succeed.

I reproduced the same problem with my PC. The error message we got after having
entered the parameters and pressed APPLY, was like this --"Invalid Action :
View Message Box", and the Message box said, "attemp to create PVC link
failed ...". And then, another error message appeared in a stand alone window,
"System or general error".

These error messages do not tell me what I have done wrong. Did anybody get
it to work?

Thanks in advance!

There are a number reasons for this, which can relate to "NO SUCH" from SNMP.
Please provide as much information as possible such as configuration,
input parameters, SNMP trace/log, etc.. and with this can help identify the
problem.

3778.2A simpler testLEMAN::PAIVAHawkeye - Network Support @GEOTue Aug 20 1996 09:1417
    Having tried to modify the "Admin status" from "green" to "red" of a
    pt-pt PVC (Port 1.1 VPI/VCI 0/103 to Port 4.3 VPI/VCI 0/403) created
    through the console of the GS/ATM I got the following in the message box:

    [E] Attempt to Modify PVC Status failed T:1 SP:0.0 VCC:0-0 To SP:0.0
    VCC:0-0

    Is this helpful?

    My first feeling is that MCM is not ready to execute this kind of
    operation...?!

    Cheers,

    Pedro

 I added the point to point PVC as follows:

        Input Virtual Circuit Parameters:

        Enter desired slot (1-6,8-14) for input: 4
        Enter desired port for input: 3
        Zero as input results in a system provided PVC/SVC VCI
        Enter vci input : 103

        Output Virtual Circuit Parameters:

        Enter desired slot (1-6,8-14) for output: 4
        Enter desired port for output: 4
        Zero as input results in a system provided SVC/PVC VCI
        Enter vci output : 103
        Determine desired CBR bandwidth, in Megabits/sec. (max: 126)
        Enter bandwidth, zero will result in an ABR circuit: 0
        Should this be a duplex circuit, y or n (y)?:
        Should this be a FLOWmaster circuit at the input, y or n (y)?:
        Should this be a FLOWmaster circuit at the output, y or n (y)?:

        Circuit established between 4.3 Invci: 103 and 4.4 Outvci: 103

        Commit permanent virtual circuit to non-volatile storage, y or n (n)?: y

        Point-to-Point PVC Record committed to flash successfully.

  Refreshed PVC screen with MCM and successfully modified the admin status

3778.4Are we talking about the same stuff?LEMAN::PAIVAHawkeye - Network Support @GEOTue Aug 27 1996 05:4010
    re: .3

    I suppose you used the GS/ATM console to set up the PVCs. When in MCM,
    did you get into the PVC summary and then selected a PVC to modify (in
    which you would modify the "admin status")?

    Cheers,

   Yes set up PVC with GS and modify admin status with MCM.
