Hello, I have connected a PC runnin Netware 3.12 to a port of the DECswitch900EF (V1.61). On the FDDI port there is a Novell Server equipped with a DEFPA interface. When I try to login from the PC it takes very long for the password to appear. A program called syscon also takes very long to execute. On the FDDI port of the bridge I can see many "oversized" frames. When I decrease a parameter called receive packet size on the Novell server to 1500 I can login with no problem and the oversized frames disappear. In the readme file there is a reccomendation to have this parameter at 4500 or above. Could anyone please shed some light onto this ?

3760.1 | Raw IPX? | MXOC00::CSILVA | Carlos@MXO 7296514 Free but focused | Thu Aug 01 1996 15:46 | 8 |
Are you using RAW IPX?, I mean IPX packets in a 802.3 frame with no 802.2 or Ethernet II encapsulation. You can enable the feature in the Module Specific Options Menu from the setup console in most of the latest firmware versions. For more info on this checho notes 3635, 1821, 1511 and 1444

Hello, no they are not using RAW IXP but Ethernet_II. I had enabled RAW IPX initially when I didn't know their frame type. Any more ideas ? Regards Ulrich Rueggen
3760.3 | Try asking this question in UPSAR:FDDI notes conf | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | Fri Aug 02 1996 10:12 | 8
<--- .0 You might want to ask this question in the FDDI notes conference. The adapters folks responsible for products like the DEFPA might be able to shed some light on the implications of the receive packet size using a DEFPA on a Novell server. Bob |
