3698.0. "Where are the Maps of the LAN??" by TAINO::WROSARIO () Wed Jul 10 1996 16:54

When you are lost you need a MAP...

I have a customer that wants the Network Management Software with
features, where we can use clearVisn Multichassis(Hubwatch) and
clearVisn RMON(Probewatch), BUT, the clearVisn RMON doesn't include the
entire MAP of the LAN to be able to see any alarms on it. The gurus of
clearVisn said that it will be including on clearVisn Wave II.

Does anyone knows about Serverworks Manager, I saw a brochure where it
is mentioned that it includes a map of the LAN. It's true???

What's the difference between clearVisn and Server works????

Does the NPBU has different products from the PCBU to make the same
    management??

Where are the maps that we need???

Displaying a map of a LAN is a feature for a enterprise NMS
like Polycenter. If you cand afford the latter, the low cost
option is Server Manager (former ManageWORS).

I mean ServerWorks (not Server Manager),
clearVISN is not NMS but a set of tools for management
and configuration that in some cases can integrate to
    a NMS

PCBU - ServerWorks (get a free copy if you buy a digital pc server)
	       easy to integrate MCM

NPBU - clearVISN but no lan view yet
	       contains MCM

	Polycentergroup - Polycenter Netview (WNT,DUNIX)
	       easy to integrate MCM

I see no use of integrating a lan view within clearVISN,
but that's my personal point of view :-)

	best regards

    Andy:

What I'm trying to do, as per customer specifications and requirements
    on a RFP.

Their specifications and requirements are pointing to Probewatch (with
MAP of the LAN) and right now clearvisn RMON does not include the MAPs.
    That's the main problem.

After this, one person told me about SERverworks on the PC server that
we are oincluding in the proposal.

Result, I must integrate, Server Works, Clearvisn RMON and clearvisn
    Multichassis.

Another solution, try to sell the original probewatch, previous to
    product retirement, with multichasis manager.

The original probewatch never did any sort of lan mapping.

I would recommend Serverworks or Netview on NT depending on customer
    requirements.
