3693.0. "clearVISN questions..." by HEN::SCHNEIDER (Rick Schneider (315)461-9938) Wed Jul 10 1996 10:31

        I installed the ClearVISN software on a NT system (3.51 service pack
    4). I used the SSB CD for Windows 3.X. Is there a separate CD for NT
    and Windows 95? Colorado Support said that they were told that
    everything was supposed to be on the same CD... Is that the case? If
    so, then the directories on the CD don't match up with the
    Documentation (specifically the tutorial directory and the ODBC
    information pointed to in the release notes).

    I installed the following (all the stuff not requiring a license plus
    the RMON manager and the Multi chasis Manager

    	- flash loader
    	- firmware
    	- Rmon manager
    	- multi chasis manager
    	- common core

    The configuration I was using for the system had two disks. I installed
    the ClearVISN software on the "user" disk where the NetView for NT was
    installed... The installation process did not update my Path and did
    not update the environment symbols...

    Once I got that straightened out, I tried to setup the flash loader per
    the documentation. I started the router manager (which started up the
    stonneybrook snmp server). But I did not get the login window as per
    the documentation. How can I tell if the TFTP server is started? Do I
    need the router manager component installed? if so, doesn't that
    require a license?

    The RMON manager does not have the patches that are available for the
    PROBEwatch for DOS software. Specifically the patch that allows
    PROBEwatch to manage more than 100 RMON interfaces. Also, the tools
    pull down menu says NETscout shell and not ClearVISN shell as listed on
    the main screen... Was the customizatio/integrarion of PROBEwatch to
    RMON Manager done by Digital or by Frontier? Where do we look for
    patches to the RMON manager?

    				thanks,

    				rick

Is there a separate CD for NT and Windows 95?

>>> There are two shipping CDs. The first is for Windows 3.XX which is
>>> the last release on this platform. The second is for NT/Win95.

The installation process did not update my Path and did
    not update the environment symbols

>>> Were you logged in as Administrator or with administrative privileges?
>>> If so, were the environment variables from previous installations still
>>> within your user area and overriding any system wide variables.
>>> The installation does not change all variable if they already exist.
>>> This is mentioned in the README.TXT on the CD. One other possibleproblem
>>> might be if HUBWATCH_SYSTEM is set from a previous installation.clearVISN
>>> does not require this to be defined.

3693.2Where are HUBWATCH_LIBRARY and Registry entries located KAOFS::S_HYNDMANZoom Splat PilotTue Jul 16 1996 17:1510

    Where is HUBWATCH_LIBRARY defined?

    What are the full paths for the registry entries?

    	I had to re-install clearvis in a new location. I can't find where
    some of the variables get defined inorder to point to the new location.

3693.3Environement variablesSTEVEV::VINGERHOETWed Jul 17 1996 09:495
All the environment variables are defined within the NT registry. This
can be accessed through Control Panel -> System.

Please make sure that your system is not set up to use an autoexec with
old HUBwatch entries (not clearVISN).

    Thanks I found it through Control Panel -> System. I was trying to
    find it in the registry with regedt32 and I couldn't find it. Where is
    it stored?
