3677.0. "ManageWorks vs. Polycenter?" by ISTWI1::EKER () Wed Jul 03 1996 08:06

    Hello,

I am a bit confused about ManageWorks Workgroup Administrator.

    1. I can not find it in the 1996's Network Products Guide? Is it end of
    life???

    2. I found the SPD's and now feeling that it can manage any network
built with SNMP compliant devices (that means it can work on a
    multivendor environment), is that true?

    3. The most important question is, at what conditions should the
customer use ManageWorks Workgroup Administrator, when should they use
Polycenter? I mean what makes the difference between Manageworks and
    Polycenter?

    Thanks for any reply,

Hi, you might try asking in the manageworks notes file (NOTED::MWDEV).

Hi,

Look at the name --> Manageworks WORKGROUP administrator

WGA is targeted on Workgroups and "small" companies up to ~200(at most) managed
nodes(someone will correct me if im wrong). It is a 16-bit Windows application
which runs also on WNT(Intel). However it has some nice features and you get it
for free with every Digital Server.

Polycenter Manager on Netview is available on Digital UNIX and Windows NT
(intel and Alpha). It is a "real" 32bit Enterprise Management application
which is capable of dealing with thousands of nodes(depending on platform)
and has of course much more features(and a higher price) than the WGA.

regards
Robert
