I have been able to get simple RMON info out of the 1.6R release of the decswitch900EF firmeware. What i would like to be able to see is the same graphs etc that i get when i run probewatch against the packetprobe..... Can anyone enlighten me as to how to get this. So far i have run RMON manager and seen textual information but no graphs. May be i am setting up incorrectly. thanks dave

I didn't think that was available. I thought that the RMON that we provided was the basic text info. You'd use the PACKETprobe to do that if you needed it. Regards, j

Some time ago I did some tests with 4 groups implementation and PROBEwatch V3.3 on DUNIX. My findings have been confirmed by Renato Vista (NS France) who did some tests with RMON Manager on NT. - You can use Domain Mgr, Traffic Monitor - From the Domain Mgr, you can start . Zoom a segment to view current,short-term and long term stats (util, bytes, packets, broadcast, multicast, errors (CRC etc...) Packet size distribution. , Watchdog to define alarms and events . From segment zoom, you can do a SHOW GRAPH to view short and long term graphs of . util min and max, collision rate packet size distrib, packet destination, util and error % . From there you can start the segment stats graphs (current, short term, long term) to view graphs of %. - Watchdog allows to create specific alarms on thresholds (%,delta, absolute) for ethernet stats variables like util, collisions. A trap can be sent on rising or falling threshold. In order to send the traps to 1 or + NMS, you can use the MultiChassis Manager to define trap sinks in the bridge configuration window. - Traffic Monitor can be used by adding a line domain: RMON in the beginning of /usr/kits/PROBEwatch/usr/traffmon.cfg You create a ds900ef group and add all the ports to the group. By selecting the ds900ef group and clicking on traffic monitor, you will get access to current, min, max and average values of vital signs, packet sizes, packets destinations and errors for ALL the ports in the group (at the same time !)

Here is what I did to get RMON on ClearVISN RMON manager working .... There was not enough time to ensure this was EXACTLY needed as written - but it did give me the desired results....graphs of data as per the Packetprobe gives....good enough for me! 1) Ensure RMON capable firmware loaded V1.6.0R and you turn ON RMON for the port(s) in question under the new RMON button from MultiChassis Manager 2) On RMON manager, launch using public-rmon for *BOTH* read and write community strings (where public was name of community on switch) 3) Ensure interface number on RMON manager launch screen matches interface of interest (default is 1 == FDDI interface ; there is no RMON on FDDI interface) 4) Turn OFF (DEINSTALL) RMON group in Domain manager 5) Turn on (INSTALL) domain ALL in Domain manager Switch and RMONmanager now work together to provide protocol and traffic monitor graphs....simple once you know! regards Davet |
