The base CLEARVISN kit (with the free HUBloader) needs an immediate FIX to include the NETrider loader as part of the basic package. Why? This is because the ONLY way to downline load some NPB products (i.e. provide BOOTP and TFTP) is via that function. Should a repeater go 'brain dead' and you need to BOOTP it,or if you need to update a ROAMabout access point's firmware etc., or if you have the media kit for a DECserver on PC form and need to load it,you need this functionality. It USED to be in the HUBwatch kit. The CLEARvisn kit removed it. (You DO get it if you get NETrider, but not all hub folks get NETrider.) So...help! Could we fix the kit for the August release? Thanks! j

I agree with this also because I have yet to get the Router Manager with the TFTP server up and running. In addition, 38MB of common files is really excessive on a notebook solution. I can see why we all got ZIP drives. I'm using the Netrider V1.1 with Flash Loader and it works like a charm. Why are we using a sledgehammer (crippled RTR MGR) to do this job? It would be really nice if someone could post what these 38MB of "common files" are. So we could compress them if we don't need them.
3670.2 | bootp/tftp server | UTRTSC::GROOT_R | Ronald de Groot | Thu Jul 04 1996 04:02 | 5 |
I agree with note .0 but when you look in de comet directory there is a bootp/tftp server with works o.k. with HUBloader. The bootp server has no bootptab file or .ini file or whatever for what I can see. Ronald
3670.3 | TFTP Server comes with ClearVISN Core files - note Router Manager | NETCAD::FORINO | Mon Jul 22 1996 19:18 | 16
Just a note. The clearVISN TFTP Server is part of the clearVISN Core files that are installed whenever you install any clearVISN application. All of the core files reside under the clearVISN Router icon. Therefore, you always get the clearVISN Router icon even though you didn't install any router applications (Router Manager or Router Configurator). I know its confusing but there is some history behind this that I won't want to get into here. Anyway, you do not need to install Router Manager to get the TFTP Server function - you always get it by default. John PS. We'll get a BOOTP Server into the next release so the short term fix is to continuing using the NetRider BOOTP Server. |
