Hello

One of our customers is testing our Roamabout  wireless ethernet products. 
He is using the Roamabout access point with 2400FH PCM-CIA and a PC with 
2400FH/ISA PC card. The maximum transfer speed he measured with a file-copy 
between server and PC was 18Kbytes per second  
The maximum performance of Roamabaout should be  1.6Mbit/sec (SPD 51.38.03)

We build the same test setup in our office with the following result:

PC equipped with wireless ISA card, file server is connected to our local LAN
The test was a  file copy of 23Mbytes


Netbeui file copy Fileserver to PC   500Kbits/sec
Netbeui file copy PC to fileserver   300Kbits/sec             
TCP/IP FTP file copy Server to PC    300Kbits/sec


Are these normal performance figures or is there something wrong.

Why don't we measure 1.6 Mbit/sec in this test.

    I asked that question 2 years ago when we first came out with the
    wireless stuff, and the basic answer was:
    	It is degraded by the protocol stack involved.
    
    Esssentially, I was told that the wireless antennas exchanged RAW bits
    at up to 2.0Mega-BITS per second. (THe FH stuff was 1.6mega-BITS per second)
    
    Now, you want NETbeiu or TCPIP? That is a whole different story.
    
    I think the 500K-bits per second is probably a good value based on the
    way it was described to me and what I'VE seen out here.
