3526.0. "find address broken?" by CSC32::D_PERRIN () Fri May 10 1996 15:31

    Two related questions:

    1) Hubwatch/windows 4.1.1 - Apparently the "find address" function
doesn't work for IP addresses? From DOS, I can PING a pc connected
to a dr90c in a dh900ms(4.1.0) but "find address" always returns:

"Cannot resolve IP address - station does not respond to ping"

From a Hubwatch/vms 3.1 system, find address works.

    2) In the bridge "forwarding database" window, the DECnet and
MAC address buttons are useable, but IP is greyed out. Is this
    a "feature?"

     Thanks.

3526.2Help text seems to confirm thisSNOFS1::KHOOJEANNIEPoles are the best post-impressionistsTue May 14 1996 00:4540
I agree it doesn't seem to work, and if you read the help file in
HUBwatch v4.1.2 (below), it looks like it's a supposed "search criteria"
but in fact HUBwatch can only find the address based on MAC or DECnet.
Customers and myself wonder why it's left in if it never works???

    Find Address (menus.hlp)

Find Address searches for Ethernet stations by MAC address and
DECnet address. The HUBwatch software tries to find the specified
Ethernet station in the agents (and their associated hubs) listed in
the Agents file. If no agents are specified in the file, the software
uses the agent currently in the hub.

    To find an Ethernet station:

    1.	Click on Find Address. A Find Address box appears.
    2.	Click on the Search By dropdown list box. A list of search
criteria appears (MAC address, DECnet address, or IP
    address).
    3.	Enter the information (the MAC address or DECnet address)
in the Search Key box. The HUBwatch software uses this
    information to perform the search.
    4.	Click on Find.
    5.	When the search is complete, the following information about
the Ethernet station is displayed in the Find Address box:

The MAC address of the station managing the Ethernet
    station.
The IP address of the SNMP agent managing the
    Ethernet station.
The name of the community in which the Ethernet
    station is located.
The location in the hub of the module to which the
    Ethernet station is connected.
The repeater port to which the station is attached.

    6.	Click on Cancel to close the window.
