| Tomas,
Which snmpV2? There are competing "standards". (The oxymoron isn't
lost on me. ;-)
I can't help you provide *any* level of commitment. No activity is
scheduled.
We know snmpV2 or snmpV3 is coming. We know we'll be getting more notes
from folks like you asking for our "level of commitment" to snmpV2.
We know we'll have to implement v2 if the market demands it.
Sorry for the non-answer. You'll have to somehow put a nice spin on
this for the customer. Or maybe one of our marketing folks can contribute
here.

After rereading my reply I think I sounded a little too flippant.
We want to hear about what customers are asking for, so keep asking
for them in this conference. Keep asking even if you get replies like
mine saying, "Geeez, we know it's coming". But also please realize that
this notes file is no substitute for contacting the product manager.

| Last I heard, SNMP V2 was not going to happen in ANY DEC product, but
as -.1 indicates, PARTS of SNMP V2 or V3 or whatever Jeff Case and his
groupies determine can be digested, DEC will build into the products.
I get the question all the time from my customers, and "SNMP V2" is not
something they really get a great deal of benefit from... some PARTS of
it would be nice, but not the whole boat.
(I hve yet to get any specific feature of SNMPV2 identified FROM A
CUSTOMER that they really want! I think it's just the "Flavor of the
Day" and they want what they hear is the latest and greatest.)

| ... who is the best contact person for such a requirements. Supposing it is
not smart idea to ask every product manager of every networking product.

| Start with Jack Forrest, ask him. He's either going to have an
answer or he's not. If he doesn't have an answer, I'm very sure
he will be glad to provide you with another contact who he believes
might be better suited to answer your questions.
