3472.0. "address filter 900ef" by MQOOA::YDAIGNEAULT () Wed Apr 17 1996 16:41

    Hi, could someboby explain me what are the pre-defined addresses in the
    the address filter section on a DECswitch 900Ex. The addresses in the
    switch I am working with are in the following range:

    - 01-80-C2-00-00-00 to 01-80-C2-00-00-oF
    - 08-00-2b-96-F0-68 to 08-00-2B-96-F0-6E
    - 09-00-2B-01-00-01

    					Thanks, Yves.

3472.101-80-c2-00-00-00 is the Bridge hello multicastEDWIN::TOMG::gulickThose dirty rings !!Wed Apr 17 1996 16:576
The first range is defined in 802.1d standard (MAC bridging) as reserved
for use by bridges and to be always filtered.

I suspect the other addresses are similarly specified in some other standard.

    01-80-C2-00-00-00 This is the IEEE 802.1d cross-company multicast
                           Bridge group address.

    01-80-C2-00-00-01 to These are also IEEE 802.1d cross-company multicasts
    01-80-C2-00-00-oF reserved (always filtered by bridges).

    08-00-2b-96-F0-68 to These are probably the 7 addresses of the 7 ports
    08-00-2B-96-F0-6E of the specific bridge you are looking at.

    09-00-2B-01-00-01 This is an "All Local Bridges" multicast address
                           assigned by Digital.

    These can be found along with many other LAN addresses in the Ethernet
    Registry documents located at the following public area.
    FILES::NET$ARCH:[REGISTRY]

    There are versions of the Registry which are for *Internal Use Only*
    and other public registry documents at this same pointer.
    Enjoy....
