3446.0. "bridge 90 forward filter not working correctly." by BACHUS::KNEUTS (Erwin Kneuts DTN 856-8726) Fri Apr 12 1996 09:35
hello,
My customer wants to do simething similar as the following setup.
DECbridge> DEFINE PROTOCOL 1 FORWARD 60-03 ! only forward DECnet
init bridge
DECbridge> SHO PROT 1,16
Protocol 1: forward all ethernet protocol 60-03
Protocol 2: unused protocol
Protocol 3: unused protocol
.
.
this causes all Ethernet V2 packets to be filtered out, except DECnet.
802.3 frames get through. (OSI, Netbios,IPX, etc...)
There is a STARS article which explains the reason for this.
The filtering algorithm is not designed to do this.
The SPD says:
- Set up to 16 protocol filters, which may be set as either Eth-
ernet protocol types (two bytes) or IEEE 802.3 SNAP SAP proto-
col identifiers (five bytes). Each of these 16 filters can have
one of five dispositions. (The first two dispositions are mu-
tually exclusive, and cannot be used simultaneously on the same
bridge.)
1. Forward all messages of a specified protocol, filtering mes-
sages of all unspecified protocols.
My interpretation of this is that above setup should work.
Can this be corrected? As far as I can check no IPMT has been opened for this.
It will be difficult to sell this as normal behaviour.
Thanks for your comments.

Please refer to my reply in 3445.1. You can also refer to IPMT #37531.
