3434.1 | Nope, gotta use the set-up port. | NETCAD::GALLAGHER | | Wed Apr 10 1996 10:45 | 4 |
| Nope. "IP Address", "Default Gateway", and "Subnet Mask" are all configuration
parameters which must be set from the device's console.
Sorry, but you've got to visit some hubs.

3434.2 | Consider adding terminal servers to all orders... | TOPTEN::LEONARD | Paid to play | Thu Apr 11 1996 10:55 | 21 |
| This won't help you this time, but consider it for your next
installs...
I include in all DEChub orders minimally a DECserver 90M for out of
band management purposes. I connect a cable from the console/config
port of the DEChub 900/90 to the terminal server and associate a telnet
listener with the port. From anywhere in the IP WAN I can telnet into
this device by specifying the base address of the terminal server and
the telnet listener port address. Of course, this does require an IP
WAN... I don't stop at the hub, I also connect the brouter DSU/CSU
and any other device that has a console port...
Were this in place at the sites which need the DEChub subnet mask
reset, you could telnet in to the remote site and reset it without ever
getting in your car...
Just a thought, but sure has saved me lots of on the road travel
time...
Happy hubbing!

3434.3 | Another possibility | GIDDAY::MORETTI | Death is just a formality | Thu Apr 11 1996 23:12 | 14 |

You could also set up a modem and cable for OBM of the console.
Of course OBM IP would already have to be setup.
If there is IP OBM setup you could send the modem/cable combo to each
site and have the locals connect it and then dial in.
I have requested QEC to do this as a means of cutting down site visits.
Cheers
John

3434.4 | SNMP just won't do it! | NETCAD::CURRIER | | Fri Apr 12 1996 10:30 | 3 |
| the OBM port talks SNMP. The subnet cannot be set via SNMP. It must
be set from the set up port.
