3410.0. "Braindead DECrepeater 900TM" by PHHSS1::DFAUST (Bad Things, man...) Thu Mar 28 1996 15:54

    I have a DECrepeater 900TM that is braindead (the PC died while doing
    the firmware upgrade). It is sitting there with the PWR and ThinWire
    LEDs light, the Self-test OK LED off and the LED for Port 1 on, with
    none of the A through D LEDs on. I think it might be doing a BOOTP
    request, but I don't know the name of the file it's requesting. In the
    NetRider Loader, I set it up so that a request for DETMM would be
    associated with the file DETMM200.BIN. I see lots of BOOTP requests
    coming in. Do I have something set up wrong?

    Dennis,

    I have had the same problem as you and found that the nonly solution is
    to change the repeater.

    You may like to try setting up a unix box to act as the tftp server
    instead of the PC as you can get more feedback from the unix boxes by
    examining the syslogs for events during the bootp requests and
    responses.

    I did this with some braindead 900TM repeaters and found that the
    repeater was sending out bootp requests and the unix server was
    responding but a tftp request was never sent by the repeater module.

    I think the repeaters becoming braindead has a lot to do with the V1.0g
    firmware as I have had several 1.0g modules die on me.

    I found that by upgrading to V1.1 (DETMM110.BIN) and then to V2.0
    DETMM200.BIN) has worked everytime I have done this.

    Cheers

    John
3410.2Where is DETMM110.BIN?STRWRS::KOCH_PIt never hurts to ask...Thu May 30 1996 22:254

    Is DETMM110.BIN somewhere on the network for doing this? I just got
    nailed today by this and want to try -.1 to see if I can attain the
    same success.
