I have a customer here who wants to use the spanning tree functionality
of the DECswitch 900EF to achieve some sort of redundancy in the
network as follows, and he wants to be able to specify which port will
be forwarding and which port will be in backup.
___________________
| DECswitch 900EF |
|_________________|
port 3| |port 4
| |
forwarding| |placed into backup by spanning tree
| |
same LAN
He tried changing the PATH COST parameter, but
this did not make any difference - the MAC address of the port
continued to determine which was active and which was not.
I have read the new 900-Series Switch Reference manual, and am still
none the wiser. Anyone know whether this is possible???
Thanks for any help
Jeannie

| 3390.1 | config works with multiswitch | NZOV02::MCDONALD | Wed Mar 27 1996 00:59 | 8 | |
Hi Jeannie,
this configuration works well we use this at Tasman Pulp &
Paper, it enables use to build along with the FDDI and portswitch
modules a bullet proof backbone. Give me a call if you need more
details there are also some other notes in this conferance on this.
Cheers Graeme.

Have spoken to Graeme today and his (working) configuration is slightly
different (he has 2 DECswitches in the hub for redundancy).

Does anyone know if this should work with 1 DECswitch only as per .0?
