3367.0. "900EE MP router area address conf. question" by CHR27::YEUNG (im2bz2p,ru?) Fri Mar 15 1996 01:41

My customer has a DECswitch 900EE multi-protocol router in a DEChub 900.
The 900EE is supposed to be a DECnet router (Level 1 Phase V and level 2
Phase IV). I have already entered the following NCP commands on the
900EE to configure DNA phase IV:

	define executor address 13.1010
	define executor state on
	define executor type area
	define circuit eth/1 state on
	define circuit eth/2 state on
	define circuit eth/3 state on

After restarting the 900EE, I proceeded to configure OSI.
When it prompted for Area address, I tried the following
without success:

	13
	49
	49000d

What should the area address be?
Thanks

3367.2Need more info in order to assist you....NETCAD::BATTERSBYFri Mar 15 1996 11:3126
    I went out in my lab and with someones assistance we tried
    to re-create what you did. We came away with a couple of assumptions.

    1. You must have gone thru quick config.
       If you hadn't gone thru quick config, the max address would
       have appeared as 32 instead of 1024, and you wouldn't have
       otherwise been able to enter the def exec add of 13.1010

    2. You must have done a "set net".
       If you hadn't done a "set net", you wouldn't have gotten as
       far as getting prompted for the area address.

    So we can't figure out what you did wrong that prevented you
    from getting past the area address prompt.
    The value of 49000d worked for us.
    BTW if using quick config, you didn't need to "define exec state on"
    as quick config automatically turns it on.
    Bottom line is you'll have to provide more details before it can
    be figured out what you may have done wrong.
    We bounced this off one of the Brouter code developers and he couldn't
    figure out what you were doing wrong based on the information supplied
    in the base note.

	I issued the NCP command: "def exec max address 1024" before
	I set the executor address to 13.1010. "show exec char" shows
	the router to be properly configured as 13.1010.

	Yes I did do a "set net" following the "p osi" command.

	I'll try again tomorrow (3/18/96). If it doesn't work. I'll
	reset the router and start all over. I'll also post here all
	the commands that I use.

Thanks again

3367.5Just curious, what was it?NETCAD::BATTERSBYThu Mar 21 1996 11:334
    Now, you've got my curiosity. What is it you believe you did
    that got it working?
