3282.0. "Is hubwatch necessary with one repeater?" by COWBOY::MIRGHANE () Thu Feb 15 1996 04:01

    Is hubwatch necessary when using only one repeater such as the 90TS
    and/or the 90T-16?.

    Thanks very much for help.

No, not really. The repeaters will repeat correctly out-of-the-box.

But sell lots and lots of HUBwatch's anyway. ;-)
3282.2Repeater must have IP services.. 90T-16 doesn'tJULIET::HARRIS_MASales Executive IIFri Feb 16 1996 14:235
    Hubwatch won't work with a 90T-16 alone. It needs IP services like the
    90TS or 900 series stuff. (so don't sell hubwatch to a single 90T-16
    customer, unless you want it back 8-)

    Good point, Mark. HUBwatch requires an IP agent of some sort. So, if
    all you have is a dumb repeater or a 90L+ DECserver, HUBwatch will be
    absolutely no help to you. (Except as a justification to buy more hard
    disks.)

    The point I was making was that for simple vanilla operations of
    switches, repeaters, or terminal servers, where you just want to switch
    or repeat or connect, these products do those things when you plug them
    in.

    Do not, under any circumstances, give a customer a 900 hub without
    HUBwatch, however. To do even simple backplane LAN management, it's
    required.

3282.4Never tell it to folks.PTOJJD::DANZAKPittsburgher Sun Feb 18 1996 13:115
    Of course - we still NEVER tell this to anybody in the documentation!
    (i.e. needing HUBwatch for the 900....)

    Sigh....it's the little things..
