3248.0. "Hubwatch for SunOS and HP-UX V4.1.2 kits available on the network" by NETCAD::MORENZ (JoAnne Morenz Network Management Eng.) Wed Feb 07 1996 16:26

The Sun and HP kits can be found on bhub

	IP Address	16.21.16.156
	Host Name	bhub
	File Name	/var/users/ftp/hwports/hw_sun_0412.tar
			/var/users/ftp/hwports/hw_hp_0412.tar

Please remember to transfer this in Binary mode.

Installation Instructions:

	Log in as root

	cd /usr/kits

	tar xvf hw_sun_0412.tar -or- hw_hp_0412.tar

Read and follow all of the instructions in the post_install.tasks
	file.

You can create an installable tape from this by doing the following:

 	cd /usr/kits/HUBwatch

 	mount -f /dev/rst0(for Sun) rewind
		 /dev/rmt/3m(for HP)

 	tar cvhf /dev/nrst0 hw_install hubwatch.release_notes post_install.tasks
		 /dev/rmt/3mn(for HP)

	tar cvhfB /dev/rst0 *
		  /dev/rmt/3m(for HP)

To Install from the tape you just made - type

	tar xvf /dev/rst0
		/dev/rmt/3m(for HP)

	./hw_install

Don't forget when creating the tape that the install expects 2 volumes. You
write to the norewind device first (/dev/nrst0 for Sun /dev/rmt/3mn for HP)

3248.1Symptom: Could not open /usr/kits/HUBWATCH/uid/hub_gui_mod_add_del.uid....NETCAD::MORENZJoAnne Morenz Network Management Eng.Thu Feb 08 1996 10:0133

>>	Could not open /usr/kits/HUBWATCH/uid/hub_gui_mod_add_del.uid

This is a result of the installation instructions not being completed by the
installer. Please make sure you read the instructions. I will include the
solution for this problem below:
================================================================================

There are system parameters that must be set up - per instructions in the
release notes, installation chapter and post-installation notes. These are
actions that can not be automated - they are system setup parameters.

The error you are seeing is due to the fact that the user hasn't increased the
maxfiles parameter as requested (and required) in the post-install instructions.
The default value is 64 and we recommend the user to increase it to 100 or even
128.

The user can do this by:

a. logging in as superuser,

b. invoking 'sam', the sys adm utility and choosing "modify system parameters"

c. scrolling down to 'maxfiles' and changing the default (64) to 128

d. saving and exiting.

The above actions cause the system to rebuild a kernel and reboot with the
modified maxfiles value. The problem then goes away.
3248.2Symptom: Hubwatch V4.1 HP-UX - errors starting OpenView after installNETCAD::MORENZJoAnne Morenz Network Management Eng.Thu Mar 28 1996 15:2326
Here is an example of error messages found by a customer after the installation
- trying to start OpenView
=========================================================================

------------------------------
File: /usr/OV/symbols/C/hubwatch.sym
Line: 6
Error: Unknown field "isDEChub"
------------------------------

------------------------------
File: /usr/OV/registration/C/hubwatch
Line: 40
Error: Unknown field "isDEChub"
------------------------------

SOLUTION:

The post installation tasks (displayed during the installation and found in a
file called hubwatch.post_install_tasks) MUST BE COMPLETED for the base
installation of Hubwatch. The tasks described for OpenView installation are in
error and will be fixed in the next release. Please look at the file:

	/usr/kits/HUBwatch/lib/OV/readme.hw

and define the system logicals according to the instructions in this file

    I have installed HUBWATCH (v4.1.2) for HP-UX
which works fine if I invoke hubwatch by itself
            #hubwatch -a xx -x 16.x.x.x -c public

But if I try to launch it from HP opnview ( i have the dechub symbol on
all the hubs, I have agent file which has rwx protection)

but still I get the following error.........

    HUBwatch for HP-UX, Revision V4.1.2
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    HUBwatch:
You have not specified an SNMP agent to be managed. The agent
name or its IP address must be specified, either on the command
line or in the resource file. HUBwatch command line syntax:
            hubwatch -a <agent_name> -x <adrs> -c <comstr> ...

For more information, type "man hubwatch".

Finally got Hubwatch launched from OPenview.. The hub is properly
registered with an IP address (xx.xx.xx.xx) and name (hub1).

Eventhough from openview, if I search the hub by its name it gives
full name/ip address... Hubwatch did not recognise the name

so, I had to change the hub's selection name
to its IP address from its name hub1 in-order to make
    hubwatch work from openview

Never have this problem from polycenter netview
