I usually do something the the diagram below:
- Put an FDDI module in slot 8 (usually a DECswitch 900EF)
- Put an FDDI module in slot 7 (usually a concentrator)
- Connect the two FDDI modules across the backplane
- Ring them
- Dual home devices off of Hub 1 and Hub 2

The above can tolerate:
- Total failure of any hub
- Failure of any one hub module (and rest of hub modules are still
on ring/connected etc.
