3174.1 | You probably aren't running the most recent FW rev.. | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Thu Jan 18 1996 09:24 | 7 |
| If your 900EF has I believe FW=1.5.0 or newer (preferably the latest
rev of 1.5.2), when you go into menu 4 of the console menu, to enter
an IP address, it should prompt you for a subnet mask. So perhaps
your 900EF does not currently have the most recent rev of firmware
loaded to it.

3174.2 | subnet mask w/ V1.4.0 | LEMAN::PAIVA | Hawkeye - Network Support @GEO | Thu Jan 18 1996 10:08 | 9 |
| Bob,
You're right. What I should have asked is what's the default subnet
mask for V1.4.0. The problem that may have led to the problem had
already disappeared when I asked the question (after upgrading to
V1.5.2 last night).

3174.3 | It probably would have been 255.0.0.0 | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Thu Jan 18 1996 11:07 | 8 |
| I'm told on the old rev of 1.4.0 that we used the network mask
as the subnet mask. So depending on what class (A,B,C) you were
in you would get the corresponding effective subnet mask.
So here at Digital the mask would have been 255.0.0.0
I'm not an IP expert, but I'm learning. :) So I had to go off and
ask this question.

3174.4 | Thanks | LEMAN::PAIVA | Hawkeye - Network Support @GEO | Thu Jan 18 1996 11:51 | 7 |
| So, as the customer's net is a Class C (194.x.x.x) then the subnet mask
should have been 255.255.255.0
Thanks Bob.

| Yes I believe that's correct, and you're also welcome.
Bob :)
