3163.0. "Probewatch vs W&G - competitive information." by OTOOA::JPOND () Tue Jan 16 1996 17:36
Hi folks,
I currently am trialing the ProbeWatch stuff at a customer site. All is
going well.
The customer is asking me for competitive information versus a product
called "Domino" from a company called Wandelin Golderman (sp?). I
asked the Frontier guys for inputs on this, and this is basically what
I have so far:
o W&G is a higher-end product, really meant to compete with
traditional protocol analyzers from instrumentation vendors. It
addresses a different market segment.
o Uses a non-RMON non-standard statistical gathering scheme.
o Basically a protocol analyzer only; does not have a real management
capability.
o Cannot drill down to the application level.
o ProbeWatch provides value in the ability to create multiple views of
the data using DomainView.
o W&G concentrates more on bit-level information and not at the higher
levels.
o ProbeWatch provides a single management station for an entire
enterprise and has a truly distributed remote management capability,
whereas W&G cannot support management of distributed sites.
o ProbeWatch/Frontier solution is half the cost of an equivalent
W&G solution.
o W&G may address their RMON shortcomings by re-selling Frontier
solution.
Please critique what I have presented here, and please comment on what
I may want to add.
Thanks in advance,
Jim
