3122.0. "test fails to probe " by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (hen::schneider) Thu Jan 04 1996 15:26

Using Probewatch on a NT 3.51 (service pack 3) system I don't seem to be
able to get the test probe to work. I always get a ping failed pop up window.
Although if I go to the MS dos window prompt and ping the probe it works fine.

How does Probewatch issue the ping vs ping at the NT DOS prompt?

					thanks,

					rick

3122.1patch available from frontierHEN::SCHNEIDERRick Schneider (315)461-9938Thu Jan 04 1996 17:1434
    I spoke with a person at Frontier. There is a patch to work around the
    problem.

    	Using a Microsoft stack applications do not have access to icmp
    information (no API I guess). So Frontier has a patch that skips the
    ping during the test and just does the SNMP gets. The pop up window
    will state that the ping is not supported ( i would have benn more
    specific on the statement stating that the stack won't allow the ping -
    saying it's not supported may lead the user to think the probe doesn't
    support the ping).

    anyway, the patch is located at ftp.frontier.com via anonymous ftp.
    the directory is /pub/client_3.3_9450 The name of the file is
    pat9450.exe

    	The file is a self extracting file. run it on the system and it
    expands to three files: install.bat, nsman.exe and pingoff. The
    install.bat only works if you installed probewatch in \nshome so if
    you're using probewatch 3.3 the default was \probew

    copy the nsman.exe file to \probew\bin
    copy the pingoff file to \probew\usr

    no need to restart the program... I had probewatch running when I added
    the patch and it fixed the problem when I tested the probes...

    						regards,

    there's some other patch files in the same directory for reports and
    netbios decode, but they wouldn't tell me what they fixed...
