Depends on how old your firmware is. Significant work was done
in this area in general for DMHUB versions 4.0.x and 4.1. The
upgrade may solve the problem.

Hi,
I have v4.1 DEChub 900MS firmware, but if I hot swapped the
DECswitch 900EF, the module looses the connections to the hub
backplane. I have to reconfigure the DECswitch ports.
For my customer this is a big problem.
Any suggestion will be apreciated.
thanks

| Monica,
If "FDDI Auto Healing" is turned off (this is the default), the
behavior you describe is expected and intended. This is true of
all modules.
If "FDDI Auto Healing" is turned on, in order for an FDDI module's
backplane configuration to be restored, it must be the same kind of
module (same SysObjectId) and it must be part of an FDDI ring on the
backplane. This is true of any FDDI module including the 900EF. If both
FDDI port are directed out the front, it behaves like a non-FDDI module
in respect to Auto Healing.
Unfortunately, there is an added restriction where if you swap a
DECbridge 900MX for a DECswitch 900EF (or vice versa) it is treated as
a different kind of module (they have different sysObjectId's) and the
configuration if not restored.
In a future version of the MAM, we will be including an "Auto Restore"
capability that will work for all module types, regardless of their LAN
affiliations. And the 900MX / 900EF will be treated as equivalent.

Ciao Mike,
if "FDDI Auto Healing" is turned on I'm able to save the connections
of the modules with the Dual Ring internal to Hub, but I have to
reconfigure the connections of SM type. Is this a correct behaviour?
And what about the ports with Ethernet internal to hub?
thanks for your help.

Not sure what you mean here. If you have configured an FDDI
module with tree backplane connections ( S and M ) they will be
restored. They must be connected to another module on the
backplane for this to work. Just the same as rings (A,B)
Ethernet ports on the DECbridge 900MX and DECswitch 900EF
will be restored as well. Repeaters are not involved (til the next
release).

Ciao,
Thanks for your answer.
Probablu I'm doing something wrong.
I have configured my DEChub 900MS as following:
slot 1: DECswitch 900EF with port 1 Dual Ring Internal to HUB
port 3 Ethernet internal to Hub connected
to Thinwire.
slot 5: DEConcentrator 900MX with Dual Ring internal to HUB
slot 7: DEConcentrator 900MX with S external and M internal to HUB
slot 8: DECrepeater 90C
FDDI Auto Healing Enable
If I hot swap off the DECswitch 900 EF and then I reinsert the
same module in the same slot, I can save the connection to Dual Ring
but I loose the port 3 Ethernet connection of the DECswitch 900EF
and the M connection of the DEConcentrator 900MX.
What is wrong?
thanks again

This should work. Maybe you have found a bug. You said you
have v4.1 of the MAM FW. What is the switch + concentrator
FW versions? I will try to reproduce the problem.
>and the M connection of the DEConcentrator 900MX.
This M port is not connected to anything; so you have lost
nothing. To be restored it must be connected to an
S port of another module on the backplane.

thanks again
