Hi, My name is Andy Robinson,I work in MCS at nottingham,England. I have recently moved into this arena so to speak. I have a customer running HUBWATCH V4.0.1 on Novell and he needs to upgrade his firmware on his hubs. This is because he has added a new DECrepeater900tm which is not seen by Hubwatch. The MAM firmware is V3.1, he has 9xDECrepeater900TM's 1xDECrepeater900GM and three DECswitch900EF's. He is asking me if there is any way that he can upgrade the firmware but not power cycle the modules/hub at the time of the upgrade to minimise downtime to the users. Is this possible? and also if anyone knows of any gotcha's,rat-holes etc when performing this procedure. Any info gratefully received. Thanks Andy.

Andy When upgrading the hub/module/hubwatch etc you need to be careful how you do it because you find yourself with an unmanageable hub, and module doing strange things. The latest version of hubwatch for windows is 4.1 this comes with a utility called Hubloader. Which is very useful in upgrading modules, and the MAM module on the hub itself. The order to upgrade is the version of hubwatch (V4.1), the MAM module using hubloader to V4.1, then the modules to the latest version of firmware depending on what module you have. The latest version can be found on FTP.DIGITAL.COM /pub/digital/hub900/firmware Regards Steven Freke LAN Team CSC, Basingstoke [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] | |||||

You cannot upgrade a module while it is being used. (you can download the image into the landing pad, but once the actual firmware moves from the hub landing pad into the working firmware area of a module, THAT MODULE will temporarily shut down, and reboot itself when it is done. Firmware upgrades are a traffic stopping event. It must be scheduled with your customer base. The most recent versions are available online at www.networks.digital.com, or many of the other pointers in this file. JR |
