3065.0. "Two FDDI rings on a single DECHub900?" by OSLLAV::BJORN (Bjrn Olav Haugom) Wed Dec 13 1995 04:12

To configure two FDDI-rings with a bridge between them, what do I need?

The customer has a DECswitch 900EF, but I'm uncertain about the two ports,
if they are on the same ring or if we can bridge between them.

3065.1OK in the HUB, but can't bridge between them.MSDOA::REEDJohn Reed @CBO = Network ServicesWed Dec 13 1995 11:559
    The two ports on the DECswitch 900EF are FDDI A and FDDI B (ring in and
    ring out) for a single DAS ring. There is only ONE FDDI Bridge port
    available on the Switch. It switches up to 6 ethernets to one FDDI.

    If you need an FDDI to FDDI bridge, I would sell the DECNIS
    Bridge/router with two FDDI cards. If you need more than two FDDI
    rings, then go with the Gigaswitch.

3065.2What about routing between the FDDI ports?MKOTS3::BLANCHETTEFri Dec 15 1995 11:0512
We had this same question at the TCC.

What if RouteAbout software is loaded on the DECswitch 900EF, and the
A/B ports are configured as M/S ports. Will the DECswitch be able
to route (IP for example) between the two FDDI ports?

A customer would like to filter FDDI traffic between the FDDI ring in
his DEChub 900 and the campus FDDI backbone.

Thanks!

    The ports are electrically joined in the FDDI chipset and act as a
    single unit no matter if they are A/B or M/S.
