3054.0. "Hub Config Backup/Restore" by HGOVC::ANTHONYCHIU () Mon Dec 11 1995 05:35

    Hello,

    I have a question from customer :

Can our new version of HUBwatch for Windows 4.1.1 provide the
functionality that it can backup/restore the Hub configuration file ?

I know that clearVISN Resiliency Utility can do that, how about
    HUBwatch itself ?

Thanks in advance for your answer !

HUBwatch cannot perform this function and it is not planned to have it.
You have to use the Resilency application if you need this function.

Let me expand on John's comments...

The management software for enVISN is called clearVISN. clearVISN consists
of a bunch of applications, including HUBwatch, Resilience, and others.

In the future, these applications will be nicely integrated under the
clearVISN umbrella, with common installations, common databases, common
interfaces, etc. Work on this is happening right now. No, there's not a
ship date yet.

But, each clearVISN application is a separate application.

The reason for separate applications rather than putting it all into HUBwatch
are many:
	1. HUBwatch is just too damned big.
	2. HUBwatch is cheap. Its purpose is basic configuration. It needs
	   to stay cheap.
	3. We have a lot of demand for functions that go beyond basic
	   configuration.
	4. etc

What these reasons amount to is that we want to continue to offer HUBwatch
at an inexpensive price so that someone can configure their stack, DEChub 90,
DEChub 900, GIGAswitch, etc. Adding big new features (like backup, like
virtual network management, like events and alarms) is expensive. Customers
needing basic configuration don't need these functions. Customers who need
them will pay for them.

anonymous ftp it from slink.dechub.lkg.dec.com.

When you get there, do a directory to find the latest version. The last
one in there is x1.0.22.

Note 2876.* gives directions on how to copy the files and has pointers
to more Resilience information.
