3038.0. "Remote hub management ?" by BROUGH::DAVIES (Not Also, but ONLY) Thu Dec 07 1995 07:41

A customer of mine asked the following question.

If I install a DEChub90 at our remote offices and put in it the following
modules, can HUBwatch (located at the central site) manage the modules

	DEChub 90 + DECrepeater 90TS + DECserver 90M + DECbrouter 90.

I'm aware of the limitations of the DECbrouter with regard to Hubwatch. The
comms to the remote site will be X.25 with TCP/IP & DECnet routed over it
from a DEChub900 with a pair of DECbrouters at the central site.

I am unclear if a DECagent 90 is required at the remote site or not.

    There is no BUS MASTER in your remote site config. I would sell a
    DECagent 90 to perform this function in each remote site.

3038.2You can manage them; they have a SNMP agentROM01::GALLANAFrancesco GallanaThu Dec 07 1995 10:057
    All the modules have their own SNMP agent inside so you don't have any
    problem to manage them even through a remote site; it is enough to
    assign to each module a IP address.
    The only thing that happens is that your HUBwatch will be able to
    manage only one module at a time

3038.3Didn't see the "TS" in .0MSDOA::REEDJohn Reed @CBO = Network ServicesThu Dec 07 1995 11:533
    That's right (apology to the 90TS), The Repeater TS does include
    a BUS Master.

3038.4Thanks for the informationBROUGH::DAVIESNot Also, but ONLYMon Dec 11 1995 06:586
Thanks for the replies. They confirmed that you can remote meange hubs without
a DECagent90 as long as you choose SNMP capable modules.
