3018.0. "DEChub 900MS, DECbridge 900MX, PORTswitch 900CP - problem" by DECPRG::PRNET::PILAR () Wed Nov 29 1995 15:23

Hi all,

today I have installed at customer site PORTswitch 900CP, PORTswitch 900FP,
and DECconcentrator 900MX. Current DEChub 900 configuration is as follows:

Slot1 - empty
Slot2 - empty
Slot3 - empty
Slot4 - DECserver 900TM (NAS 1.3)
Slot5 - PORTswitch 900FP (FW 2.0.0)
Slot6 - PORTswitch 900CP - IP service modul (FW 2.1.0)
Slot7 - DECbridge 900MX (FW 1.5.2)
Slot8 - DECconcentrator 900MX (FW 3.1.1)
Backplane - FW 4.1.0

All modules and backplane has firmware from OSF FW kit except PORTswitch
900 CP because it is corrupted (I have version from Internet).

The backplane configuration is as follows:

Thinwire
FDDI
Ether-1
Ether-2
Ether-3
Ether-4
Ether-5

I have following problems:

1/ I have FDDI ring only in the backplane (A/B of both DECbridge and
DECconcentrator are turned to the backplane). When I connect both modules
to the FDDI network, I can sometimes see FDDI ring wrapped and sometimes it
looks O.K. It looks there is connection in between 1B port of DECbridge and
BP2 port of DECconcentrator.

2/ When turning all 6 ethernet ports of DECbridge to the backplane and
connecting them to ethernet LANs at the backplane leaves one ethernet port
(mostly connected to Ether-4) in "Broken forwarding state - red".

3/ PORTswitch 900CP shows ports without segments in green (either in
HUBwatch (OSF 4.1) or at front bezel).

I was trying resets (current/factory) and reconfiguration several times but
without success.

Can anybody advice me what could be wrong (DECbridge, backplane or my
configuration or ...)?

Thank you in advance for any suggestion

Regards

Jarry

Sounds like it could be a backplane problem. Hard to say for sure.
Does the ring wrap due to LEM or LCT errors? You may want someone
to look at the hub. Or it could be a module problem.

I don't know what you mean. Tom?

Hi Mike,

I've already try new backbone - no success. When connected all six ethernet
ports to backbone it behaves as described in .0. I can sometimes see FDDI
port in state "Link confidence test - remote" and sometimes it does not
have neibourgh at all. I would suspect DECbridge 900 but I cannot try the
new one because situation with spare part is really bad.

Yesterday I changed port groups in PORTswitch 900CP and it looks OK now
(Thinwire is now connected to one group and it was not before). I will be
at customer site next week to check how does it work.

Thanks

Jarry
