3007.0. "HW for Windows "Invalid file header" fatal error" by CGOOA::PITULEY (DIGITAL=DEC: ReClaim TheName) Sat Nov 25 1995 16:38

    It's Saturday.

    The courier company lost some cables I needed for the hardware install.

    On top of that, I have been trying to install HW 4.1.1 at the customer
    site and I keep getting the "Fatal error at script line 0" "Invalid
    file header" error.

    Am I having fun yet????

    I copied the HW install diskettes down from bhub in binary mode using NFT.
    The diskettes *seem* to be OK.....the "install.exe" executable runs OK and
    the .INF file looks fine when I look at it with a text editor.

    What's happening??????? Which file has the invalid file header? Why
    would script line 0 have an error???..after all, it is a comment....

    Help????

    Hopefully,

    BTW....The 4.1.1 consolidated firmware kit installed flawlessly....

3007.1Correctly generated diskettes ?LEMAN::PAIVAHawkeye - Network Support @GEOMon Nov 27 1995 05:124
    Did you generate the diskettes with DISKn.EXE A:\ (or am I confusing
    with the DCF kit)?

3007.3Information as requested....CGOOA::PITULEYDIGITAL=DEC: ReClaim TheNameMon Nov 27 1995 11:0914
    To answer the last couple....

    I copied the files across the network from the disk 1, disk 2, disk 3
    directories directly onto floppies which I then sneaker-netted across
    the street to install on the customer's PC. He currently has HW 3.1
    installed and it is running just fine. I have been contracted to do a
    firmware and HW upgrade on their network.....

    PS: the firmware installed perfectly but it's not much good without
    HUBloader to load it and HW to run it... :-(

  Culprit floppy disk may be, try to reformat the floppy and restart disk1.exe
  on it

3007.5Progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CGOOA::PITULEYDIGITAL=DEC: ReClaim TheNameMon Nov 27 1995 13:4110
    I seem to have conquered the problem...what ever it was. I made a new
    set of disks through FTP rather than NFT and it the newest set seems to
    work.....at least on the test PC I managed to get into the install
    procedure.

    We'll see how it goes at the customer site.....

3007.6It worked but......CGOOA::PITULEYDIGITAL=DEC: ReClaim TheNameTue Dec 05 1995 14:1713
    Well, I installed at the customer site last night and all went well.
    As it was I didn't get out of there until 22:30.......

    Does anyone have any idea what the difference between a binary copy
    under FTP and a binary copy under NFT is? Why would the disks made
    through FTP work and the ones made through NFT not work???

    Puzzled...
