    Hi,
    
    I'd like an opinion about monitoring FDDI backbones based on our
    DECSwitch900EF.
    
    Having read note 2784.2 I see there are two FDDI probes, one for
    UTP and the other for SAS interface, I assume that DECswitch has SAS
    interface, i'm right?
    
    Is there any experience with this probe.
    
    Please any advise will be welcome.
    
    How to order the DT* part number in Europe? any experience?

    The versions of the DECswitch 900EF using RMON are not available
    yet. I believe they are targeted to be available at the earliest
    in February 96. The FDDI probes mentioned in 2784.2 are Frontiers
    probes, not probes using DECswitch900EF hardware. You are partially 
    right though, the DECswitch 900EF does have SAS, (it actually has a
    DAS connection capability). We are allowed to sell Frontier's probes
    as mentioned by Jack in note 2784.2.

    but if I don't bad remember RMON on DECSwitch was intended only for
    Ethernet, wasn't it?

    Correct, the information in notes 2784.* say there will not be
    RMON support on the FDDI side of a DECswitch900EF as I had found out
    and replied there. Your words in the base note seemed to imply that
    RMON support on the decswitch 900EF platform was available today,
    and you were asking for comments on its use. Your initial reference to 
    FDDI monitoring on the DECswitch, I must have overlooked. Jack Forrest
    is the right person to contact for how to order the alternative probes
    for the European market that you inquired about.
