2963.0. "Management specification for DEChub components ?" by KETJE::PACCO (Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae) Thu Nov 09 1995 06:18
I used to work in a ver big DECnis based network, but are introducing
also DEChub 90/900 components more and more network. With the DECnis
management was quite easy as ALL management was done by NCL/CMIP,
as well for the permanent as for the volatile database. Monitoring
is done based on the centralised processing of EVENTS (DECmcc/TeMIP).
We use the diversification of the events, 250 (different events) at
this time.
As the style of DEChub management is totally different (MIBs, console
port, Hubwatch) we fear to have to change our management organization.
Therefore we absolutely require a better understanding of the full
scope, per box, of what is manageable and how ? Specially the
diversification of the events sent by these boxes are crucial, as we
cannot poll the whole network because of its size.
Where can I find, for each of the actual DEChub members
1) for each box, which are the corresponding MIBs.
2) Are ALL the parameters of the boxes manageable though these MIBS ?
(Are there parameters only manageable through the console
interface).
3) Are all the variables defined in these MIBs really used?
In case of exceptions, per box, which parameters are not used ?
4) Which TRAPS are being sent by which box?
Which kind of documentation, or notes, or anything alike will allow me
to get a better understanding in all of these 4 areas.
Kind regards,
Dominique PACCO
Consultant at the Belgian PTT's.

Salut Dominique,
until you get some answers from the Engineers, I can provide some help.
I have a list of which MIB is supported by NPB product.
(I did some research to give it to the ManageWORKS developpers to ship it the
MIB browser of ManageWORKS V2.2 ...to be announced soon).
Latest MIBS supported by the HUB products can be found in the firmware release
notes of the product.
The MIBS are on gatekeeper under /pub/DEC/hub900/mibs
For the traps look at note 2071.
Drop me a call.
Manuel.
