2931.1 | Nope, they "won't see the light" | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Tue Oct 31 1995 09:27 | 11 |
| The DEREP used a DEC-proprietary signaling which was neither
FOIRL nor 10base-FL compatible. The DEFLM fiber is of course 10base-FL.
There is a note in the Ethernet_V2 notes conference (UPSAR::ETHERNET_V2)
865.3 which explains all the differences between the old product
compatabilities, and lack of.
So, basically, I would suggest you replace the old big-as-a-pizza DEREP
box with its likely generous veneer of dust, with something more
state-of-the-art that can "talk"' to the DEFLM & other 10base-FL
products.

2931.3 | DEREP used a truely proprietary signaling fibre medium... | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Tue Oct 31 1995 17:04 | 5 |
| DEFAR is a 10base-FL compatible device which allows for backwards
compatibility with FOIRL compliant devices. The DEREP wasn't ...er
"forwards" compatible/compliant with FOIRL.
