2821.0. "MultiStack System and AUI" by LEMAN::GAILLARDON () Mon Oct 02 1995 10:23
Going trough the documentation about the new MultiStack System, I
understand that there are two types of stacking units:
- DETRX, with no AUI capability on the rear side, AND NO + 12V
- DETAX, with AUI capability on the rear side, AND WITH 12V
The problem is that the products with Front Panel AUI, ie DEWGB,
DEWGF, DEFAR, DEFMI are proposed as stackable units using a DETRX,
part number being DExxx-Sx...(S = DETRX )
(the front AUI port will not work ...DETRX = NO 12V). This is a
little bit confusing and may cause some config errors..!!
A MultiStack System configuration where an AUI port of the above
module DEFMI is to be used, must be made of :
DETAX-Sx + DEFMI-MA, until an DEFMI-Ux exists and providing that
the 12V of the DETAX feeds the AUI port of the module....correct..??
Cheers, Robert.

The part numbers are correct. The only module that supports the
DETAX is the DETML. The power supply supplied with the DETRX will
provide the appropriate power to the modules. DON'T create a problem
wher none exists.

2821.2 | <still confused> | LEMAN::GAILLARDON | | Mon Oct 02 1995 10:46 | 8 |
| Glad to know...it's just a matter to have a clear understanding without
creating unnecessary problems
In the manual EK-DETXX-IN.A01, page B-3, Electrical Spec Stackable
Backplane the DETRX is stated as 0.00A @12V, 0.07A @ 5V, 0.35W.
The DETAX is stated as 0.07A @5v, 0.50A @12V... then the conclusion
that there was no 12 V on the DETRX.
Robert.

| I can see how the docs are somewhat confusing. The 12V current you
stated in your previous reply is for 12V current used by the rear
cover. In the case of the DETRX, we were just saying the rear cover
uses no 12V current. In the case of the DETAX, we were just saying it
could use as much as 0.5A, since that's the most a plugged-in MAU could
possibly use. We weren't specifying the power delivered to the module
itself. Both the DETRX and the DETAX make the 12V supply available to
the plugged in module.
