2819.0. "Questions about RMON on DECswitch" by IJSAPL::VISSER_A () Mon Oct 02 1995 06:41
Hello,
I have some questions about the RMON statistics on a DECswitch xx:
- Is it possible to monitor a port using RMON and not forwarding on this port?
  do i have to open the switch on this port using HUBwatch or
  do i have to disable the learning of this port.
- About how many stations can I collect statistics and how many connections can
  i monitor.
Anton Visser,
Network Services Holland.
Backgound:
I often does measurement on customer networks using LTMreports. The collecting
and reporting possibility's of LTMreports are very good. A limmited part can
be done using RMON (packet probe) but there are still a lot of limmitations:
(data collection on customer network, max 600 stations, etc...)
If i can use a DECswitch i can bring my own decswitch and connect this to the
customer network and collect the data using a seperated segment. But... This
switch must not forward any packet because i want to connect it to a life
network.
