2805.0. "Configuration Question" by RDGENG::GREID (All that is, was and will be...) Thu Sep 28 1995 05:18

I have a configuration question regarding connecting fddi rings
formed by DC900MXs to a Gigaswitch.

Say I have five major user groups on a LAN and I want to migrate
them from five separate ethernet segments connected together by
DECbridge 600s dual homed into an FDDI ring comprising three DC500s,
to a Gigaswitch backbone with five separate FDDI rings (one for each
    user group).

Would I be topologically correct in configuring five pairs of
DC900MX concentrators connected normally together using the A + B
ports, and then connecting one M port from each concentrator to the
Gigaswitch (for dual homing). So for one user group their office
connections would ultimately connect from a PEswitch 900MX in a DECHub
900 dual homed to the user groups FDDI ring of two DC900MXs, with an
M port on each of the two DC900MXs connecting into a two port line card
on the Gigaswitch. Is this clear ? Is this legal ?; the best solution ?

I'm hoping this is the correct use of the Gigaswitch.

Thanks in anticipation for any views on this.

    	Giles.

Note that this is cross posted to at least two other notes
conferences (GIGASWITCH 580 and FDDI 1816).

As Michael rightly pointed out, this has been cross posted and answered
in Note 580 in the Gigaswitch conference.
