I have a customer who would like to to protocol specific filtering of DECnet application packets. That is, they'd like to construct filters which could block out file transfers, virtual terminal, phone, etc. Is it possible to construct filters (by hand) which can get this far down into a DECnet packet?

I can't speak for the other products (check the DECNIS and COMMON_BROUTERS notesfiles), but the DECbrouter90 can filter DECnet IV packets, when it's routing DECnet, by source/destination network or host number, as well as by Object # (Mail, FAL, CTERM, etc), username, password, or UIC in DECnet IV Connect Initiate packets. Check out the 9.14 DECbrouter90 Config & Reference manual Volume 2, pages 4-10 to 4-14 for more information. BTW, since the DECbrouter runs cisco IOS code, the above is true for *any* cisco router which can route DECnet. regards, Chuck O. Router Interop Engineering |
