2780.0. "Security and Accounting info" by ATHINA::KARVOUNIS_A (Who knows KWITERBELYAKIN ? ) Wed Sep 20 1995 10:44

I am interrested in the features of Hubwatch concerning
security (of data and configuration) and accounting (both
billing and network statistics eg. bad frames, collisions
etc). I want this information for a public bid so I would
like to have my answers as documented as possible, so please
refer to documents covering these issues.

I would appreciate any responces as soon as possible (as always)
as we are putting the offer together.

    Thank you in advance

Security: I don't quite understand what security and HUBwatch have in
common. HUBwatch is an SNMP configuration program. It will
let you see or change anything on a network device, as long
as you know that device's IP address and SNMP community string.
To make SNMP devices somewhat secure, change the community string.
What is it that your customer wants here?

Accounting: The current version of HUBwatch does not include accounting.

-------

As always, please let product management know (directly) of needed features.

Hmmm. I just re-read .0:

> bad frames, collisions

Where the various devices support MIBs that contain those counters,
HUBwatch displays them. "Accounting" typically means keeping track
of that info (as opposed to simply displaying it). HUBwatch does
not track that info, as of the current version.
