2765.0. "DECswitch900 brouter software" by CRONIC::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Fri Sep 15 1995 14:56

    Hi

The June 26, 1995 issues of 'Digital News & Review' p.7 has an article
titled, "Digital brings routing functions to the hub". In part, it
    states:

"The company will offer software-only upgrades to its DECswitch
900EE and 900EF modules in August and add the DECswitch 900ET token
    ring module by year's end.

"Adding routing capabilites to the DECswitch modules enables the
switch to forward packets directly to the appropriate end node without
the overhead of first sending the data through a separate router. It
also enables the switch to handle inter-LAN routing and firewalling for
    virtual LANs."

Sounds good to me. I noticed that the DEChub Consolidated Firmware
V4.1 Kit does not include an updated DECswitch 900EE/EF module. Is
this brouter capability released? If not, any announced availability
    dates?

    Thanks!

This is a value added piece of software which has to be PURCHASED by
the customer, it's not free. So, don't expect to see this on the
    Internet either.

For much discussion on the new common brouter products (including
the DECswitch 900EE/EF code), see notesfile CAMERO::COMMON_BROUTERS.
