Hi! Occassionally, our DECserver 900GMs get so badly confused we can't telnet to them; so, we can't to a INIT to reload them. The other way to reload them is to walk to the DEChub 900 rack, and rock them out, then in, forcing a power off and reload. Is there another way to accomplish this? For instance, can I cycle power on a particular DEChub 900 slot? Thanks! tl

RE: .0 I'll differ to the hub gurus for the absolute answer about power cycling a particular slot but I believe the answer is no. Another way to cause a re-load of a DECsrever 900 (GM or TM) is to depress the reset-to-factory button on the server's front panel for approximately ten seconds. The button can be found nect to the "D" bulk connector on a GM and next to the flashram slot on the TM. ***WARNING*** This is only to be used when the server is hopelessly hosed. ALL settings will be reset to factory values. I'd be interested in finding out what is meant by "badly confused". Send some e-mail or, if possible, continue the discussion in the terminal server notesfile (TOOK::TERMINAL_SERVERS).

No, you can't power cycle one slot in a DEChub 900, other than by manually removing the module.

Bummer. Is something that could be added? There are times when, say, a DECserver does not respond to SNMP or Telnet, and must be power cycled. Being able to do this remotely would be a real boon. tl |
