Question 1 Can Spanning Tree be disabled on the DS900-EF, if not how can the followng be accomplished. Customer has two seperate Networks, each consisting of many bridges, theses two serperate Networks are bridged by a DS900-EF, the plan is to seperate these two networks in the future, but for now they need to pass a couple of protocals between the two networks. What the customer would like is to be able to pass some information but not spanning tree messages, therefore if spanning tree changes take place in one network, they do not affect the other, any idea's. JD HE tried one solution, he set up the following protocal filter on port 3 of the DS900-EF using hubwatch: Filter 802.3 DSAP ID 42 According to the information he gave me, hubwatch let him set up the filter but the bridge is still forwarding these packets, is this a feature.

2718.1 | I'll try to answer over at note 2709 :-) | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | Wed Sep 06 1995 15:42 | 5
Is this the same question you asked in note #2709?? If so, would it be possible to carry on the discussion over at that note topic? Just in the interest in keeping things orderly. Bob

BOB, Sorry about the duplicaion, thanx for the spanning tree reply, is there any restrictions in filtering in regards to the note about the customer trying to filter out DSAP packets. JD

I've read Chapter 21 of the Network Access Server Management guide, and have DIR/TITLEd this conference and read those notes. I understand how to direct the accounting data to a DECserver port or to a service; I'd like to understand better how to retrieve this data via SNMP, instead. DEFINE ACCOUNTING THRESHOLD xxx "specifies at what point in the building of a log the accounting component sends out a threshold notification . . . in the form of [a SNMP trap]". I'm currently using HUBwatch, and will be evaluating MANAGEworks and NetView; all of these are SNMP capable. Can I use any of these tools to receive the threshold trap, empty to accounting log, and store/report on the accounting data? If this works, I wouldn't need to fiddle with harvestd, right? Thanks! tl
