2708.0. "VLANs spanning WANs" by DPDMAI::DAVIES (Mark, SCA Area Network Consultant) Tue Sep 05 1995 18:38
We currently support Class 1 VLANs within a DEChub 900 or multiple
DEChub 900s connected using DR900FPs, etc. The following recent
announcement:
"Distributed routing software is a new option for the DECswitch 900
family of departmental switches. With the routing software, the
DECswitch 900 switch is the first product in the industry to provide
routing between virtual LANs (VLANs) in a hub."
This still hasn't changed, as I see it. What we can do now is route
between different VLANs in different DEChub 900s which are separated by
a router, as opposed to only a repeater.
When will we be able to have a single VLAN that spans two remote
locations and is connected by a router?
I am hearing this question from EVERYONE. My customers like our
direction, but the real usefulness of VLANs comes into play when you
can span WANs. as opposed to just LANs.
Thanks,
Mark
