2680.0. "DR90T AND DR90TS IN THE SAME DH90 - PROBLEM IN MANAGEMENT ??" by GIDDAY::STANISLAUS () Fri Aug 25 1995 02:21
I have to try this myself first when I get my hands on a DR90T to prove
the customer has misunderstood. But while I am waiting for my DR90T, I wanted
to post this note.
DH90 with DB90 and DR90T and a remote DA90 in another HUB. Hubwatch
has no problem seeing the DR90T in the hub that contains the DB90.
Customer puts a DR90TS in the same DH90 that has the DR90T and gives
the DR90TS an IP address and has no trouble managing DR90TS, but Hubwatch
doesn't see the DR90T anymore, which was seen by Hubwatch before the DR90TS was
installed in that DH90. He cannot give me version numbers of DR90TS, DA90, DB90,
Hubwatch etc, because he says that that happened a while ago.
Unfortunately this customer has spread a (possible) rumour that if
you have DR90T and DR90TS in the same DH90, then the DR90T can't be seen
anymore. Take the DR90TS and everything is fine. He goes further to say that
if he replaces the DB90 with a DECagent 90 (DA90) in the DH90 that has the
DR90T and DR90TS combination then everything works fine.
In a nutshell, his statement is Hubwatch does not see DR90T units in a
DH90 that also happens to have a DR90TS in it, until he replaces the DB90 in
that DH90 with a DA90. Just having DA90 in another HUB and connectivity to the
DB90 in the above DH90 does not make Hubwatch see the DR90T. Remove the DR90TS
and everything is fine. OR replace the DB90 in the problem DH90 with DA90,
evrything is fine.
This customer has over a 100 DH90 units and over 400 DR90T units.
He was going to purchase a lot of (atleast 60 to start with) DR90TS, but said
NO until the above problem is resolved.
Is the above true. When I get a DR90T I shall try myself and post result
then if there is no reply. I have all of the above in our LAB except a DR90T.

2680.1 | DR90TS and DR90T with DB90 - Management Problem ?? | GIDDAY::STANISLAUS | | Tue Aug 29 1995 21:55 | 23 |
|
I finally got a DR90T and tried my own setup in out LAB as mentioned
in .0
Proved that what customer told me (which is what prompted me to
pot entry .0) is not quite right. I have a standalone DA90 with its own power
supply and a DH90 with DB90 and DR90T and DR90TS and the DB90 can see the DR90T
without any problem inspite of having the DR90TS in that DH90. So he is
defintely wrong or he may have had some old F/W DB90 or whatever.
But the problem (not really problem but issue) I have is I delete the
module with ? in slot 6 which is the DR90TS. Then I add the module in slot
6 as the DR90TS and the HUB90 now shows DR90TS for slot 6. I double-clicked on
the DR90TS in slot 6 and nothing happens which is what I expect anyway, because
DR90TS cannot be managed by DB90.
Then I go out and select another DH900 or DH90 with HUbwatch and come
back to the above HUB90 with DB90 and DR90TS and DS90T. Slot 6 again shows
? instead of showing DR90TS. Therefore what I did in the above paragraph -
deleting the module in slot 6 and adding the module in slot 6 as DR90TS has to
be done everytime I go out and come back again into this HUB90.
