2629.0. "BOOTP/TFTP from a PC" by JGODCL::LBERG (gaia is moving) Thu Aug 10 1995 06:46

    Hello experts,

    Who tried before...
    I've the DECROU software installed on a HINOTE. I tried to reload
    braindeath hub modules using this BOOTP/TFTP by just editting the
    bootp.tab. After solving the file protection problem (put the image in the
    DECROU\COMMON directory), I got an Acknoledge problem. The PC receives a
    bootp, it will start the TFTP but then it times-out after sending the first
    block. It is waiting for an ACK.

    Any idea for a workaround or another solution to reload braindeath
    modules firmware with a PC?

2629.1Use the HUBloaderNETCAD::FORINOThu Aug 10 1995 09:3512
    Use the HUBloader utility - if you have HUBwatch 4.0 you already have
    it. If you want it as a standalone utility see note 2110.16.

    My guess is you are trying to load repeaters. I seem to remember some
    problem with loading repeaters in that they ask for the first block
    twice - the first for verification and the second for the start of
    the actual load. So when it sends the request for the first block
    the second time the TFTP server is trying to send the second block and
    you hit the timeout. The TFTP server provided with the HUBloader has
    the timeout adjusted to accommodate the repeaters.

2629.2tried hubload also!JGODCL::LBERGgaia is movingThu Aug 10 1995 10:577
    I tried the HUloader utility but didn't manage to send the correct file
    after the bootp request. Request will be received, but what next.
    I assigned the as server the repeaters hardware address and an IP
    number (in the same net and subnet). What should I mention in the
    "Files" window?!

2629.3Some questionsNETCAD::FORINOThu Aug 10 1995 14:279
    HUBloader requires that the modules are up and running and can process
    SNMP requests. If your "brain dead" module can't do this then the
    HUBloader will not work for you. Is this the case?

    If not, you should get the file name by default if the device is
    included as part of the DEChub Firmware Consolidated kit. If not
    part of the kit you can put the file name in by hand (including
    the full path name) along with the other required info (see the online
    help).
2629.4BOOTP/TFTP from a PCJGODCL::LBERGgaia is movingFri Aug 11 1995 03:489
    The only thing a "brain-death" module will do is, send out a bootp
    request and then just waiting for some node on the net that will supply
    the module an IP address, and load-file as I understand. This means
    that HUBload can't bring the module up again.

    Other suggestions for a BOOTP/TFTP possibility from a PC to load
    "brain-death" hub modules?

    But I thought a TFTP server was bundled with Hubloader. Couldn't
    the TFTP server be used for this purpose? (I have not tried it myself).

2629.6A definitive answer please?MXOC00::CSILVAMon Aug 14 1995 23:0014

    Notes 2353 2533 are about pretty much the same thing with other modules
    or the 900MAM, but the answer is incomplete. In other notes there
    are recommendations for looking at the NetRider conference that doesn't
    help much.

    Today I have a "brain-dead" 900EF and i have not been able to
    do the BOOTP/TFTP from HubLoader.

    Does anyone have a complete reference to do that?

    I think the problem is that there's not enough info about the
    options for the config files of the TFTP server.
