Couple of questions of using HUBwatch to manage Gigaswitch: 1) When using HUBwatch V4.0 for window to manage Gigaswitch (V2.2 kit), it displays 'managed port' in gigaswitch management window, could someone explain to me is this 'management port' that I used to manage the gigaswitch? Because when we look at the bridging status of that port which is BLOCKED (blocked by spanning tree), so I just wonder will this 'management port' to the port that HUBwatch used to talk to it? 2) Is HUBwatch for OSF/1 available yet? thanks and regards, Andrew Chiu - Network Services Sydney

With regards to "managed port" - I don't know where that comes from, but whether a port is in spanning tree blocking state or not does not affect SNMP communication with the GIGAswitch/FDDI system over that port. Spanning tree blocking affects forwarding of frames, SNMP communication with the GIGAswitch/FDDI system is communication with the GIGAswitch/FDDI system as a station on the ring, which does not involve forwarding.

Can you give us the steps you used to get to that display? John

If it's the field I think it is, the Management Port is the GIGAswitch port that the HUBwatch workstation is talking to. |
