2513.0. "DECswitch 900EF and FDDI DAS ?" by ANGLIN::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton (314)947-6763) Thu Jul 13 1995 13:15

Question on the DECswitch 900 EF....

If I connect an FDDI DAS device to the front bezel, the DAS connection both
fiber ports - is this correct?

If so, do I still need a backplane connection to an FDDI channel to
bridge/switch between the Enet channels and the FDDI DAS device?

The customer wants to connect a single super server to the front bezel
via FDDI DAS and support multiple 10BaseT switching domains with 900GM
10BaseT repeaters distributed across the backplane. I want to confirm the
proper hardware before trying to set up the configuration.

Thanks.

Merlin

No, you bridge/switch from the Front-panel port to Enet port hooked to
  the backplane.

 it works great.

Yes this is a DAS connection.

Just re-direct one of the unused front Ethernet ports of the EF to a
backplane Ethernet channel, the DECswitch 900EF will take care of
forwarding traffic from the front panel DAS connection of the EF to
the backplane via an ethernet port. If you want to have a front panel
FDDI connection and a backplane FDDI connection in the EF, you must
split the FDDI port 1A and 1B front and back, and would thus lose the DAS
    configuration.
For more information on using FDDI configs in the HUB refer to Karl
Pieper's note on FDDI configuration rules in note #2340.
