Is there a reason DECrepeater 900FP loses port/LAN assignments when
a removal/insertion to the same slot with the same module is performed.
The FP is not the SNMP proxy, a DECswitch 900EF is configured as the proxy.
The customer has installed the latest firmware (V4/Hub, 120/FP,150/EF)
for all modules from the net.
Thanks

That's the way the MAM works. When you remove a module with the hub powered up, the backplane info for that slot is removed. The fix for this is the upcoming Backup and Restore utility. | |||||

Is this going to be "automatic" in some way? Why have I read in other
notes about when your remove a DECconcentrator if you replace it, it
doesn't lose connectivity? Or have I mis-intepreted those notes
replies?

Hi!
I've had the same problem in a 900MS (V4.0) with a DECswitch900EF
(V1.5) and two DECconcentrator900MX (V3.0) at a customer site. I removed
all the modules one at a time but only lost the configuration of one
900MX...?!

In V4.0 and later of the MAM firmware, the FDDI auto-healing feature
will re-connect an FDDI module to its ring or tree. If said FDDI module
also has ethernet ports (e.g. DECswitch 900EF), those ports will also
be connected to the same lans as they were before. This only applies
to those FDDI modules that are connected to a FDDI LAN; if its not connected
when removed, when it's re-inserted the configuration (ligo) is lost.
This is a ring/tree healing feature, not a module-configuration-saving
feature. Repeaters and other non-FDDI modules were not included,
mostly due to time constraints. Its a given it would be good to have
the MAM automatically configure things; its a matter of balancing
need/cost/resources.
