Could anybody explain the following: - DEChub 900MS - DECswitch 900EE: some servers are sitting on a thinwire - AUI Ports 1 and 6 (don't ask me why) - DECrepeater 900TM: a lot of clients on its ports Nobody has touched neither 900EE nor 900TM (that means 900TM is on the ThinWire Ethernet, 900EE is disconnected from a backplane and works for front panel ports). HUBwatch shows that (at least LAN Interconnect window and 900EE port configurator). Nevertheless, everybody are happy. The clients talk to the servers. HUBwatch shows activity on port 2 (green, fwding enable, % filtered > 0 etc). Port 2 LED on a front panel is green but nothing is connected to the port physically. Looks like port 2 is assigned to the ThinWire Ethernet on a backplane by God or artificial intelligence. When I try to turn port 2 to a backplane by HUBwatch it returns "SNMP response format/parse error" and nothing changes. Reset to factory settings for both 900EE and DEChub doesn't help. Well, it works and let him. But what all that means? Alexander

There are two LEDs for port #2. Are they both green? Or is the right-hand LED amber, and is it flashing with traffic? Did you just upgrade anything? Did you try refreshing the Hubwatch main screen & then refresh the lan interconnect window? What happens when you pop the latch (hot-swap the module)? FW versions might be helpful. -Mike
2438.2 | 900EE is just fine but... | MOSCOW::FELIZHANKO | Thu Jun 29 1995 04:46 | 15
Mike, Both port 2 LEDs on the 900EE look just fine for normal work with forwarding/filtering: left-hand LED is steady green, right-hand one is amber and flashing with traffic. All the modules in the hub and Hub Mngr itself are at latest FW versions (DEChub - V4.0.0, 900EE - V1.1.0, HUBwatch - V4.0) Refreshing screens? No changes at all. HUBwatch is stubborn and shows that the 900EE is still disconnected from a backplane Ethernet, all ports out but actually it IS connected and works just fine... I can't hot-swap the 900EE at the moment because I'm talking about live network in our office. May be this night... Alexander
2438.3 | Try reset current | CONSLT::BUZZELL | Thu Jun 29 1995 09:52 | 8
Before you swap the 900EE try resetting the hub manager to current setttings then restart HUBwatch. I have seen instances of the MAM knowing what was really going on but not returning the correct info to HUBwatch until after a reset to current. |
