2431.0. "Questions re Powerswitch" by TOOK::MORRISON (Bob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570) Mon Jun 26 1995 17:06

  I just read about the Powerswitch device in Netcom. This sounds like a useful
device for a lot of things, not just for DEChubs. (For those who don't know,
this is a device about the size of a matchbox which you plug two line cords
into, supplied by two different circuits, and one line cord coming out. If one
incoming supply goes dead, it switches over to the other.)
  I assume this device works by detecting the dropping voltage on the selected
line and if it drops too low and the other line still has power, it switches
over to the other line. Does this switchover occur fast enough that the hub
continues running? Or does it briefly lose power and then have to reboot after
regaining power?
  I would like to borrow one of these and check it out on our DEChub setup. Is
this possible?

2431.1Hub rides out power failure with powerswitchPTOJJD::DANZAKPittsburgher Wed Jun 28 1995 08:569
    I mucked with a prototype model once.  It's about 10"x3"x5" or so...not
    as large as a mailbox. It does have two screws so you could hang it
    easily on a wall below the hub or attach it to the base of the hub (I
    think). The hub does ride out the power failure quite nicely and
    zap...it works like a champ. Makes a nice demo.

    Bob,

    If you'd like to borrow a Powerswitch for a few days to test it in your
    area, give me a call at 226-6168. I have a few of them from our RQT
    test that you could play with for a few days. We did do extensive
    testing of the Powerswitch with the DH900 and the DH90 and found no
    interruptions of power under any circumstances.

    I have a customer who is considering using a PowerSwtich for the AC
    input of a ALPHA 4000 computer.

    What is the maximum load the H7661-AA is rated for ?
    Where can I find full specifications on the device ?

    Thanks
